(Plain English) Version
Basically,
a CCV trail is as follows. In the course of the day,
each competitor will undertake twelve sections. Each
section is attempted at the same time by all
competitors.
A
section consists of twelve gates set out over
challenging (to say the least!) terrain. Each gate is
marked by canes (left and right) and is numbered from
twelve to one in descending order. The right hand cane
is marked by the gate number and you must always pass
through the gate keeping this on the right side of your
vehicle. There may also be crossed canes around the
course indicating the limit of any deviation from the
driving line that you are allowed
You
start on the twelve gate and attempt to drive through
each gate in descending order, hopefully passing through
the last gate without either stopping or hitting a gate marker cane
(If you stop moving forward but your wheels are still
spinning, you have a count of three to regain traction,
otherwise a stop is a stop!). If you fail
to do this you incur penalty points. The winner is the
competitor with the least penalty points at the end of
the day. If you stop during the section you incur the
penalty points of the next gate you would have reached
if you had continued. If you hit a gate marker cane, you
incur the penalty points of that gate. To get a clear
run and incur no penalties, you must get at least one
wheel hub of your vehicle through the one gate without
hitting either cane. (This also applies to previous
gates insofar as, if you are unable to clear a gate, you
can save yourself an extra point by just getting your
nose, or corner of the vehicle through without hitting
the cane, thereby getting the next gate instead)
The
running order of vehicles remains the same throughout
the day except that, on each section, you move up one
place and the competitor who went first moves to the
back. In this way, every competitor has to go first
without the benefit of watching others try first and
everyone has to go last when it’s been chewed up by
everyone else. (and every place in between).
For this reason there are never more than twelve
vehicles in a group. Where there are more, two or more
groups will be formed and will run separately, each
starting at different parts of the site so each group
gets a portion of the undamaged sections
We’re always on the
lookout for new Victims/Members. If your lacking an
all consuming hobby or are just plain tired of life we
generally know where there’s a couple of second hand motors,
to get you going, mainly because the ones of us that
have been bitten really badly by the bug tend to build a
new, higher spec motor every few years to raise their
game. (It’s like passing your test. First you buy yourself
an old second hand motor. You then proceed to smash it up learning the ropes and
getting halfway good, and then, when you know what your
doing, you build / buy your own “proper” toy and really kick some ass!). There'll be no shortage of
suggestions as to how to improve your motor and skills.
Advice is always free and liberally available to the
seriously interested. After all, it's good to get new
blood, it keeps us all on our toes and stops us getting
complacent!!
