A report from the Dewsbury trial from our man in the field (literally)
Keith 108

We picked Joy up on route, using the local short cut. The
weather was cold and foggy which made finding the site difficult. Most
of us did five miles more than we needed (I finished up at Mitchell's
Camping on the Saturday, ED). Dave was in front of us and found the
lane, it had been covered up with a plant.

We dropped Joy and her equipment off at the box/office and
headed to scrutineering. Both Robert and 1 passed o.k. and were told to
move further down the track finding some room at the side of a steaming
pile of cow s***!

Our group had Carol, David, Geoff and Peter. Peter was my
navigator between sections. Down at the bottom of the site we found
another huge pile of cow s*** to drive through.                          ,

Our first section was well set out but I made a pigs ear of it and     '
only got about half way around. The next one I did better and almost got
to the end managing eventually to drive out, some drivers had to be
towed out two of them not having ropes. On the next section 1 said to
Carol that my engine will die here and then drove up between some trees
and bushes. Robert did very well with his hard top on. My turn, at the
start there was a looooooong mud run, David had his camera out so I
gave it some boot through the muddy water, up the bank, across the track
down to the leany bit and it died! David pulled us clear in highbox,
thank's David. The next section gave Colin and I some trouble with a
tree, but others managed to miss it. The next section was up at the top
under a bridge. This went up a mound, down the other side, up another
steep bank, turn sharp left, sharp right, up another bank then I lost grip.
Robert got as far as me others managed clears. Next section had a lot of
ups and downs with a very steep black slimey uphill at the end. Robert
had trouble with yet another tree that jumped out and stopped him dead,
big ouch! Most of our group got to the end. When it was my turn I
managed to pass the tree got to the top turned right down into a hole my
motor coughed and spluttered but kept going to get me out, turn right up
the hill one point.

Dinner time.

The only one of the reversed sections I remember was the black
slimy steep one. I saw a ninety come down with the brakes on, seemed to
do ok. Some drivers in our group started sliding on the last 15ft. in to
some water, I was stood at the top of the section when I heard Julie
shouting for me to come down. I think I was the last, when I got to the
slippy bit I drove out of the bottom of the hole but a large tree got in the
way. Carol was telling some local kids the size of the engines and which
drivers were likely to clear the sections. At the end of the sections we
picked up the sticks as we completed them.

Back to the car park and the steamy pile of cow s***. A quick
refit of my motor with the top on for Joy.

Thank you to the setters out, the scrutineering team. Joy for
navigating in fog and the marshals. 1 had a good day out on new land.
