SOWERBY END OF MILLENNIUM TRIAL 1999

Due to a lack of transport, Ivor was unable to get to Sowerby, so
I decided to take the car up to the event. It was siling down when
I set off and due to a door seal springing a leak the previous day
I had a flood in the car. Consequently, there was a tidal wave
every time I hit the brakes or went over a bump. Oh well, press
on regardless I thought.

With the dreadful weather conditions, I was only expecting about
6 entries but they kept on arriving until we had 21.
A blast from the past came in the shape of Graham Miles in his
left hooker Rangey complete with large winch in the back.

The rain miraculously stopped and after all had signed on and
set off, I decided to go into the shop area of the trailer to do my
paperwork. Then it happened...

While climbing the metal steps into the trailer, they collapsed
under me - no ribald comments about my weight, thank you!
Anyway I ended up flat on my back in about 3 inches of liquid
mud with my feet entangled in the steps. Luckily , Scrutineer
Mutt and Equipment Officer Mark were on hand, they helped me
up and helped me to my car to recover. Keith Normanton came
round and had a chat with me and made me laugh which
cheered me up, thanks Keith. After a cup of coffee I'd recovered
enough to be able to hobble around.

There was much spraying of WD40 as drivers struggled to keep

their engines running and 2 novices were forced to retire with

engine problems, we also had one rollover.

Graham Miles did well to say that he hasn't trialled for about 12

years.

Nigel Calvert won his Class as usual - still waiting for someone

to topple him off his perch like he did to Duncan Smith many

years ago.

The daylight faded very rapidly and one or two motors finished
trialling with their headlights on.

I just managed to get the results done before it went dark and
prize giving was conducted by torchlight-very festive !
Everyone said they'd had a great day.

Many thanks to the landowner, the FEW marshals we had, the
competitors for the entertainment and the biggest thankyou of all
goes to Mutt and Mark for helping me after my accident, Cheers
lads !

A Happy Millennium to everyone.
Joy
