TONG
Pt2.
Robert
also got a clear but found that the water had forced
his fan blades forward and they had bit into his radiator. I
gave him a bottle of rad weld that had been in my motor for
the last four years!!! It still did the job, sealing the
radiator
almost immediately.
We
had lunch and headed back into the woods. Our first
section rose up from the main track with a tricky bit a the end
where you had a choice of two routes - one was very messy
and you got bogged down quite easily and the other route
was tighter but not as sticky. We took the later and got a
clear.
Next section took us down into the stream, we watched Andy
Bury round and saw that gate 9 was tight - only half an inch
clearance!! when it was our turn we took it a little bit wider
and just managed to squeeze through.
The
following section was boggy and we only got half way
through before having to be recovered. Peter Heaton got
through the bog but then hit a tree at speed - ouch!!!
Section
five of the afternoon saw us struggling with trees -
one jumped out and bashed my front wing and bulkhead
knocking the top off my snorkel. Later in the day another tree
pounced and bashed my drivers side wing. Robert also had
problems with this tree and his fan ate his radiator again, so
he retired for the day. I got through the next few sections and
then towed Robert's motor back to the campsite. We walked
down the the phone box and phoned for reinforcements (ie
another radiator). Sunday night we walked down onto the
comp. course and had a watch and wandered round with a
bottle of Newcastle Brown each. I felt quite merry by the time
we got back!!!
Monday
morning Penny & Robert set off to collect the new
radiator. While they were gone we walked down to the comp.
course again and watched a few motors round. The weather
was good for the comp. and a good turnout made it a good
day.
Many
thanks to all who organised and took part in running
the event.
Keith Normanton.
