CROSSHILLS CCV TRIAL.

The December event started early for me - the Wednesday

before - with Keith Tidswell (clerk of course) asking for phone

numbers for would be helpers for setting out on Saturday.

On Saturday morning at around 11am, I received yet another

frantic call from Keith who was up at Crosshills with the trailer

and unable to get in as he didn't know the combination lock

numbers.

He'd made several fruitless phone calls, run out of change

and had to buy a newspaper to get some, got waylaid by a

flock of sheep, had a wasted journey as Ivor gave two of the

digits the wrong way round, and finally rang me to get the

right number.

Fortunately Keith got some help - Robert lies and Keith

Normanton, Dave McGivern and Carol arrived to give him a

hand.

Saturday night was very foggy and I was hoping that it would
have lifted for morning as we had invited Northern Counties
Off-Road Trials Club to take part in our event.
Luckily it was O.K. the following morning when Ivor came to
pick me up in his new (to him) Range Rover - a big
improvement on the long legger Ivor!!!

We arrived to find Peter's snack van stuck in the site entrance
and he had to be towed in by Robert lies and Nigel Calvert
in tandem. Why on earth did you bring the tranny Peter, when
you've got a Land Rover?

That small problem over, I got all set up in the club trailer and
so did Heather with the club shop. First to sign on were the
Northern Counties lads followed by our own club. The event
started on time, but I had to go trekking off to get our
President, Brent Taylor, to sign on as he'd forgotten in his
haste to give me some land permission forms.
We were nice and warm in the club trailer thanks to Jim from
Todmorden (sorry but I don't know your last name) who
arrived with a portable paraffin heater for us.
Eight sections were completed before lunch with seven to
follow afterwards.

I heard a cheer go up and discovered that Keith Normanton
had rolled again-he's making quite a habit of it these days!!!

I can't tell you much about the competition, but I'm sure that
Keith will be sending in all the details....(see last Bottom Box
- Ed.). Keith was very concerned after the event as his
Land Rover wouldn't start and he had to get Robert lies to tow
him home on the 'A' bar - what a good job that he'd made
one the previous week!!!

After prize giving there was lots of fun getting the snack van
out of the site. The tranny was stuck across the gateway and
had to be manhandled round before it could be towed off the
site, Ivor had to tow the snack van clear and the site was
finally cleared.

Many thanks to the landowner, all marshals and a special
thanks to Keith Tidswell and his team who did a brilliant job
both days.

Finally, many thanks to Ivor for my lift there and back.
Joy.
